Have you ever wondered what or who inspires a person to become a vet? Well for Rory this came from his childhood hero called John Hurley, a vet in his hometown of Thalee in Ireland, who cared for and treated the family pets of the Lydon household….. and Rory wanted to do just the same! His childhood dreams became reality in June 1980, when he qualified from Trinity College, Dublin.

Another lifelong ambition to own a practice came to fruition in March 1987, when Rory first sowed the seeds of what is known today as Lydon Veterinary Centre. Future plans, are to continue leading the practice to maintain its position as one of the best independent vets in Birmingham. Rory completely adores his life in general practice, along with co-ordinating his outstanding team of vets, nurses and receptionists.

He particularly enjoys using his excellent veterinary experience and skills, which he has gained over many years, in the diagnosis and treatment of your poorly pets, so helping them gain a healthy recovery and enjoy life to the full. Rory and the practice also have a strong and close relationship with North Birmingham Cats Protection, administering care and treatment for these needy cats. In fact, Rory has provided a loving home for two CPL cats, Fred and Daisy that were found abandoned on an allotment at just six weeks old.

Hobbies are his pedigree Dorset Down sheep that he breeds and shows, so there is always plenty of grooming and healthcare to be done. When work is over, it is relaxation time, walking Fudge his two-year-old Shorthaired German Pointer, plus letting off steam as he supports rugby teams Leicester and the Worcester Warriors.
